 Caldera
Caldera is a dark and often difficult NWN 1.69 module set in the GWP world. This module has been developed separately to GWP with no exchange of intellectual property. This means that the world will be different and you will not be able to transfer characters between modules. A big thank you to the GWP crew for providing inspiration. Also, Vuldrick's work has been very helpful. Additionally, thanks to Skitzo and Asylum for hosting! Hopefully you can find all of the information you need in this thread to get you started. IP ADDRESSnwn.acsonline.co.nz:5126 A huge thank you to Asylum for hosting Caldera!HAKSManual Install 371.7Mb*.hak files need to be installed into the hak folder. *.tlk files need to be installed into the tlk folder. Self Installer 773.6MbFEATURES*Some features still require testing*- Custom Drinks
Some are nasty..
- Persistent Player Item Storage
Chest system.
- Real Torches
They will burn out over time.
- Real Time Lights
Light up at night time.
- UMD Checks
Prevents level 1 players from being able to cast level 9 spell.
- Horses
These are available to all while in testing.
- Item Swapping
You cannot remove armor by default, but this now applies to certain other items.
- Transition Exploit Prevention
If you decide to leave the area to rest etc, the monsters no longer just hang around quietly. Upon your return they will have rested also, this means full HP and full spells.
- Custom Items
No default nwn items! I think we have seen enough of those for a long time.
- Familiar XP loss
No longer will they server you with no penalties when they die!
- Persistent Clock
Maintains the current date and time through server reboots. This includes seasons.
- Water Sources
Clean water is handy, especially in the heat of the desert. Be careful of using polluted water sources.
- Single Server
It's just nicer when everyone gets together!
- Subdual Damage
If off by default. Can be toggled to only knock PC's out. Each knock out gets worse until finally items are dropped. Allows you to PVP in any area if you desire. There might need to be some rules about this.
- Cleric Alignment Restrictions Lifted
A little bit more freedom is given in regards to alignment restrictions.
- Item Properties
Magical Bardic Instruments Spell storing items Rename any of your items. Enchanting items You will not be able to change the look of your items currently, this is to prevent low level gear being able to look so fancy.
- Flint and Steel Campfire System
Flint and Steel must be used on dropped wood. Some objects in the game are burnable also. If you find a dry enough wood source, you can cut[bash] wood from it. Wood can be used to sustain campfires through conversation. Helpful in cold areas!
- Merchant Cleaner
Items that are sold to merchants will not be persistent. Items will be cleared shortly after sold.
- Gold Encumbrance
Gold gets heavy.
- Area Cleaner
Areas will be cleared of dropped items and remains.
- Trash
Deletion of unwanted items.
- Persistent Newspaper
Only needs to be bought once.
- Persistent Message Boards
Local and Global settings.
- Persistent Quest Journals
Quests are individual so you do not need to wait for anyone to hand anything in. You get a smaller reward for repeating the quest in the future.
- Party Loot Notification
Provides information on what your party is looting. Can be toggled after level 1.
- Persistent Banking
Kept in a big safe.
- Persistent Locations
You can toggle the reporting of this feature after level 1.
- Environmental Dangers
Hot, cold, underwater, smoky, magical and acidic areas.
- Jasperre's Improved AI v1.3
Will it still be buggy?
- The Riddling Sphinx
Get his riddles right and be rewarded!
- Resting
Can sleep in town at night, or in designated resting areas. Innkeeper has prohibited resting on his floor! Bedroll and Ration system[optional but beneficial.]
- Experience
Systems to prevent power leveling.
- Death
The death system can be explained through an item received on entry.
- Armor and Racial Encumbrance
Heavier armor will result in slightly slower movement. Different races have different movement speeds.
- Spell Hooking
Call lightning and Storm of Vengeance will not work underground Drown will not work on underwater creatures Fire spells are ineffective underwater Torches will not work underwater Cannot cast spells underwater[unless silently] Continual Flame[prevent monetary exploitation] Light[reduces hide] Time Stop[set to radius] Tensors Transformation[no polymorph and proper max bonuses] Mordenkainen’s Sword Knock[only opens] Find traps[only finds] Transformation Spells[prevents chain spell spamming] FAQWhy cant I rest in the Inn?Shopkeepers do not like people that barge in and sleep all over the place! Find somewhere else to rest. When will I be able to visit Fenguard and Jorea? While these areas have been completed, playtesting needs to be done to balance creature difficulties before they will become accessible. Why am I finding it hard to find heaps of wicked loot at level 2?Caldera is very much a low magic world. Additionally, even though the treasure system is functional, I wish to replace the standard items with custom variants. What am I supposed to do with all of the stones and gems I keep finding?Talk to Dusty, she will exchange them all for gold. And you will need gold. Why am I always so poor?A large amounts of gold is hard to come by without effort. Try redoing some quests for a small gold bonus. What is there to do in Caldera? At this time, there are near 20 quests and area's ranging from level 1 to level 40.Why do the quest rewards vary so much?Because it is hard to judge the difficulty of some monsters before playtesting. What type of quests are available?Currently, only basic head retrieval quests are available. If things go smoothly, new unique quests will be added regularly. Why cant I change the appearance of my clothing and armor? In order to keep equipment appearance consistent with item properties you will not be able to change the appearance. Another player keeps attacking me, knocking me out and stealing my equipped items? What can I do?I honestly doubt this will be too much of a problem with the current player base. If it does cause a problem, subdual damage may need to be turned off. Will I be able to use characters from GWPNo.Will I be able to visit places in GWP?No. However, a lot of the area's have been redesigned. Some are very close to the original, some and purposely different. How big is Caldera? This first stage of Caldera has over 100 areas to explore. Is Caldera finished? No. There are many more features which have been included but will not been activated until the basics are running smoothly. How do I use a horse? In most areas, you can simply mount them using the radial menu. In certain areas though, you cannot mount the horse [usually inside and town areas]. This means that you will need to assign the horse to you like a henchman. To do this, simply use the radial menu on yourself and choose 'assign mount'. You will need to repeat this step and select yourself. This will assign the horse to you. It is done this way so it is possible to assign mounts to other people, i.e, henchmen. It is known that you receive blank messages in the combat log. These messages are the instructions I have posted, or a message saying that you cannot mount the horse in the area you are in. I don't know why they come up blank as on a local server they work fine [built in by default with 1.69, maybe an override folder issue].
